'You’ll Have Had Your Tea: The Doings of Hamish and Dougal’ is a show on BBC Radio 4 which came about as a spin-off from I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue (ISIHAC). In ISIHAC there is a round called Sound Charades in which one team has to convey the title of a book, film or TV show to the other by way of a story or sketch (See ISIHAC section for more details). Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden often adopt the characters of strange Scottish characters Hamish and Dougal to put their charade across (much to the mock-annoyance of Tim Brooke-Taylor!).

The sketches and indeed the radio shows always have the line "You’ll have had your tea?" in them. This is reputed to stem from a common question in Edinburgh asked by tight-fisted hosts of their guests.

The characters became so popular amongst ‘Clue’ fans that they got their own series of 4 episodes, each 15 minutes long, which were broadcast over Christmas in 2002. In the series, Graeme Garden and Barry Cryer are ably supported by Jeremy Hardy as the local Laird and Alison Steadman as Mrs Naughtie, their housekeeper. Music is arranged by John Garden, son of Graeme and keyboard & bass player with the brilliant and successful Scissor Sisters, and performed by a four-piece ceilidh band.

There have now been three series and two 30-minute specials. The first two series are available to buy on audiocassette and CD, (and are well worth a listen), we will keep you informed as to when Series 3 hits the shops!
