The Goodies - Smash Hit Pop Group!
For many years Bill Oddie had been writing comedy music for pre - Goodies shows such as ISIRTA (radio) and BBC3 (TV) and went on to write the songs for the Goodies TV show leading to the first Goodies album released in 1973.
One of the unique aspects of the Goodies shows is the fact that they wrote the songs that accompanied the TV shows. This added another dimension to the shows as they could write visual romps into the scripts backed by relevant humourous songs which Bill supplied.
Several Goodies shows were themed around music, for example the two specials 'The Goodies Rule - OK' (in which the Goodies try to become pop stars and end up as the Pop Group Laureate) and 'Superstar' (Bill finally becomes the pop star he's always wanted to be... or has he?). With the music being played constantly in the shows it wasn't long before the music became very popular leading to the realease of Goodies records and singles.
The Goodies first appeared on Top of the Pops in April 1975; their most famous (and repeated) appearance being a performance of the Funky Gibbon which was their most successful hit; peaking at #4 in the UK charts in 1975.
Goodies LPs (albums) and singles are listed below including their tracks and where known; their release dates and highest chart entry (and date).
Please bear in mind that this is on-going research; there are probably errors below and this is in no way a definitive guide. I shall be working on this but if you can supply extra information please get in touch via the contact page.
